Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are driving from the center of Ruhuna, take the A2 highway heading south towards Matara. Continue straight for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the town of Mirissa. Once in Mirissa, look for signs directing you to the beach area. Park your car in one of the designated parking areas near the beach, as parking can get busy during peak times. From the parking area, walk towards the beach, and you will see Parrot Rock directly in front of you, a short walk along the shore.
Public Transportation
To reach Parrot Rock using public transportation, find a local bus station in Ruhuna. Board a bus heading towards Matara, which is frequent and costs around 50 LKR. Inform the driver you want to get off at Mirissa. The bus ride will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Once you arrive in Mirissa, walk towards the beach area, which is about a 10-minute stroll from the bus stop. Parrot Rock will be visible from the beach.
Tuk-Tuk
For a more direct and convenient option, you can hire a tuk-tuk from any location in Ruhuna to take you to Parrot Rock in Mirissa. This is especially useful if you have luggage or prefer not to walk. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it typically costs around 1000-1500 LKR from central Ruhuna to Mirissa. The journey should take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive, the tuk-tuk driver will drop you off near the beach, and you can easily walk to Parrot Rock.
