History of Ruhuna

Ruhuna, located in the southern part of Sri Lanka, was established as a kingdom by Prince Mahanaga, a brother of King Devanampiya Tissa, in the 3rd century BCE. The kingdom served as a significant center for agriculture, trade, and culture in ancient Sri Lanka.
The Mahavamsa, an ancient Buddhist chronicle of Sri Lankan history, details the significance of Ruhuna. This region played a pivotal role in the island's history, serving as a refuge for Sinhalese royalty and a stronghold against South Indian invasions.
