Car
If you're traveling by car from the central area of Ruhuna, head towards the A17 road. Follow the A17 southbound towards Matara. After about 30 km, take the exit towards Deniyaya (B5 road). Continue for approximately 13 km until you reach the entrance of Sinharaja Forest Reserve, which is clearly marked. Be aware that parking may have a fee, so ensure you have some cash on hand.
Public Transportation
To reach Sinharaja Forest Reserve using public transport, start by taking a bus from the main bus station in Ruhuna to Deniyaya. The bus journey takes around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Deniyaya, you can catch a local tuk-tuk or a taxi to the entrance of Sinharaja Forest Reserve, which is about 5 km away. Make sure to confirm the fare with the tuk-tuk driver beforehand; it should cost around 500-800 LKR.
Guided Tours
Another option is to join a guided tour that includes transportation from your accommodation in Ruhuna to Sinharaja Forest Reserve. Many tour operators offer packages that cover entrance fees and provide a local guide, enhancing your experience. Prices for guided tours can vary, but expect to pay between 3,000 to 6,000 LKR per person, including transportation and a guide.
