Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the city of Paramaribo. Take the Welgedaanweg (also known as the Route 1) heading towards the west. Continue on this road for approximately 45 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the Nickerie Road (Route 2). Turn left onto Nickerie Road and follow it for another 30 kilometers. You will then see signs for Brownsberg. As you approach the Brownsberg Nature Park, make sure to have a GPS or a reliable map, as the final stretch may have unpaved roads. Parking is available near the entrance of the park. Please note that a small entrance fee may be required to enter the park, typically around 10 to 20 SRD.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, start at the Paramaribo bus terminal. Look for a bus heading towards the town of Groningen or Nickerie. The fare is usually around 20 to 30 SRD. Once you reach Groningen, you will need to take a taxi or shared van to Brownsberg. Make sure to negotiate the fare in advance; it typically costs about 100 SRD for the taxi ride. The driver will drop you off at the entrance of Brownsberg Nature Park. Be prepared for a potential wait for the taxi or shared van, as they operate based on passenger demand.
Use Brownsberg as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
