Björkume unfolds as a 237-hectare tapestry of nature along Gotland's northwestern edge, stretching from road 149 to the Baltic Sea between Stenkyrkehuk and Burge. Designated a nature reserve in 1995 and part of the Natura 2000 network, Björkume safeguards Gotland's unique limestone-influenced ecosystems. Managed by the County Administrative Board of Gotland on behalf of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, it exemplifies IUCN Category V: Protected Landscape/Seascape.
