Car
If you are traveling by car, head towards Varberg, which is easily accessible via the E6 highway. From Gothenburg, take the E6 southbound for approximately 70 km, then take exit 57 towards Varberg. Follow the signs for Varberg center and continue onto the road leading to Fästevägen, where you will find parking available near Varberg Fortress (FÄSTNINGEN 1, 432 44 Varberg). Note that parking may incur a fee, so be prepared with some Swedish Krona.
Train
For those using public transportation, take a train from major cities like Gothenburg or Malmö to Varberg station. Trains run regularly and the journey from Gothenburg takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Upon arrival at Varberg station, exit the station and walk straight for about 1 km to reach Varberg Fortress. Alternatively, you can take a local bus from the station that directly goes to the fortress area, but be sure to check the bus schedule for timings and possible costs.
Bus
If you prefer to travel by bus, several regional bus services connect Varberg with nearby towns and cities in Halland. You can check the Hallandstrafiken website for schedules and routes. Buses typically drop off near the town center, from where you can walk to Varberg Fortress (approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus stop). Make sure to purchase your ticket before boarding, as it may be more expensive if bought on the bus.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous travelers, renting a bicycle is a great way to explore the scenic routes of Halland. Varberg is well connected with bike paths, and you can cycle from nearby towns such as Falkenberg or Kungsbacka.
