Odenparken was created in stages from the late 1920s on land reserved to form a green corridor between the central town and the looser fabric of Odenslund. The park’s plan responds to the street line of Stuguvägen: a larger, room-like western section graduates into a narrower planted strip to the east, where rows of birch form a linear promenade that ties the park into surrounding greenways.

The park is deliberately varied in planting — open lawns and perennial and shrub beds sit beside lines of young and mature birch, and there's a curved pergola framing the campus-side entrance. Scattered benches and several pockets of seating give the park a series of small sub-spaces for resting, reading or watching local life rather than a single formal square.

Odenparken functions as both a recreational pause and a circulation corridor. A pedestrian and cycle path crosses the lower western part of the park and links under Stuguvägen to Odenslund, making the green room a daily route for commuters, students and families. The park’s scale and gradual narrowing mean it reads as part of a continuous chain of green spaces rather than an isolated lawn.

In summer the park feels soft and open: long grass edges and flower beds attract insects and birds, while the birch rows cast discrete pool-like shade. In autumn the silver trunks and dripping leaves create a quieter, cooler palette; in winter the park’s simple geometry and the bare lines of trees take on a crisply sculptural quality beneath snow.

This is a neighbourhood park rather than a destination venue: its uses are informal — picnics, dog walking, short rest breaks between errands and study sessions for nearby students. The presence of sheltered seating, planted beds and the pergola gives both shelter and visual interest; the design accommodates short-stay recreation rather than organised events.

Odenparken is one link in Östersund’s wider system of parks and promenades.
