A mine repurposed into a living venue

Skottvångs Grufva occupies a compact historic mining complex that has been adapted into a village-scale cultural site: an old machine hall converted to the Värdshuset (inn), adjacent outbuildings for trade and a small museum telling the local mining story. The architecture keeps heavy timber beams, exposed masonry and industrial details visible, so interior spaces feel robust and tactile while retaining a warm, lived-in character.

The Värdshuset: seasonal, homemade cooking

The inn is the culinary focus: no fixed à la carte all year round but rotating menus shaped by seasonal produce and local supply. Meals are described as homestyle and carefully prepared, with a standing commitment to a vegetarian or vegan option each weekend; the Sunday buffet is a particular local tradition with house-baked bread, pickled fish, cold cuts and desserts included in a single price point when served.

Weekends transform the venue: Friday nights host a relaxed bygdepub (local pub) atmosphere; Saturdays combine leisurely lunch service with evening concerts and an expanded menu; Sundays centre on the buffet and occasional acoustic events.
