Traded in the 14th century by Birger Jarl's grandson to Abjörn Sixtensson Sparre, it fell to flames in 1516 amid conflicts with Sten Sture the Younger. Niels Bielke the Elder rebuilt it as a Renaissance seat, but his grandson Nils Bielke the Younger deemed it insufficient for his bride Eva Horn, razing much to erect the present edifice as her 1669 morning gift.Inhabited until 1976 by figures like Count Erik Magnus Brahe, whose 1810s music room endures, the castle passed to the National Property Board and now thrives under cultural stewardship, preserving rooms from disparate eras.
