Relocating operations from mainland Mo, he established Mo Ångsåg, a steam-powered sawmill that became one of Europe's largest, peaking at 95,000 cubic meters of timber annually in the 1920s. Frans Kempe's vision included spiritual provision; lacking a local church, the company funded one in Hörnefors and successfully petitioned for a separate parish in 1913, detaching 1,689 souls from Nordmaling.
