Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, make your way to Lungern, a picturesque village in the Bernese Oberland. From Interlaken, take the A8 highway towards Lucerne. Exit at the Brienz/Lungern exit and follow the signs towards Lungern. Once in Lungern, follow the main road (Lungernstrasse) towards the village center. Continue on this road until you reach the parking area near the Wätterloch trailhead. Parking may incur a small fee, so be prepared with some Swiss Francs.
Train
For those using public transportation, take the train from Interlaken or Lucerne to Lungern. The Bernese Oberland Railway services this route, with scenic views along the way. Once you arrive at Lungern train station, exit the station and head towards the main road (Lungernstrasse). You can either walk (approximately 20-30 minutes) to the Wätterloch trailhead or catch a local bus if available. Check the local bus schedule for exact timings, as they can vary.
Bus
If you are already in Lungern, local buses may operate from the village center to the starting point of the Wätterloch hike. Consult the local transportation schedule for the most accurate routes and times. Ensure that you have some Swiss Francs ready for the bus fare if it's not included in your train ticket.
Hiking
Once you have reached the Wätterloch trailhead, you will need to hike approximately 1-2 hours depending on your fitness level. Follow the marked trails that guide you through the beautiful landscapes of the Bernese Oberland. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and carry enough water for the journey.
