Instead, the appeal comes from the steepness of the line, the efficient motion of the cars, and the shift in perspective at the top. The upper end opens onto the ETH terrace, where Zürich spreads out below in rooftops, river bends, and tram lines. In clear weather, the view is broad and crisp; in fog or rain, the ride remains useful but the outlook becomes much less rewarding.
