Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Arusha, head east on Boma Road towards the Arusha Declaration Museum. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Old Moshi Road. Turn right onto Old Moshi Road and walk for about 1.5 kilometers. You will pass several shops and local eateries along the way. Keep an eye out for the signs directing you towards Mt Meru. After 1.5 kilometers, you will reach a small roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto the road heading towards Mt Meru. Continue walking for another 2 kilometers. You will start to see views of Mt Meru on your left. Follow the road until it leads you directly to the entrance of Mt Meru. The hike starts from here.

  • Bicycle

    Rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Arusha. Start your journey from the center of Arusha and head east on Boma Road. After about 1 kilometer, you will reach the intersection with Old Moshi Road. Turn right onto Old Moshi Road and cycle for approximately 1.5 kilometers. Look for signs leading to Mt Meru as you continue. After 1.5 kilometers, you will arrive at a roundabout. Take the second exit towards Mt Meru. Cycle for an additional 2 kilometers, and you will see the entrance to Mt Meru on your left. Lock your bike at the designated area before starting your hike.

  • Public Transport (Daladala)

    To reach Mt Meru via public transport, find a daladala (shared minibus) heading towards Moshi at the daladala station in Arusha. Board the bus and inform the conductor that you are going to Mt Meru. The fare is usually around 1,000 TZS. The daladala will drop you off at the junction of Old Moshi Road and the road leading to Mt Meru. From there, you will need to walk about 2 kilometers to reach the entrance of Mt Meru. Follow the signs along the way, and enjoy the beautiful scenery as you approach the mountain.
