Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Bus
From any location in Iringa, head to the main bus terminal, which is centrally located near the market area. You can ask locals for directions to the 'Iringamkazi' or 'Kigoma' bus station. Once at the terminal, look for buses headed to Ruaha National Park or the nearby town of Tungamalenga. It’s advisable to confirm with the bus driver or conductor that they will drop you off at the park entrance or the nearest point. The journey typically takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on the bus schedule and road conditions.
Shared Taxi (Dala Dala)
To take a shared taxi (known as Dala Dala), walk to the main road where Dala Dala vehicles frequently stop. Look for a Dala Dala heading towards Ruaha or Tungamalenga. Make sure to ask the driver if they go to Ruaha National Park. The ride will be less formal than a bus, and it may take around 1 to 2 hours depending on stops along the way. Be prepared for a local experience and check that you have local currency for payment.
Organized Tour
If you prefer a more guided experience, consider booking an organized tour through a local travel agency in Iringa. Many agencies offer day trips or longer safaris to Ruaha National Park that include transportation, park fees, and sometimes meals. You can visit agencies located near the market or inquire at your hotel for reputable options. Make reservations ahead of time, especially during peak tourist seasons.
