4-Day Private Safari in Mikumi & Ruaha National Parks

Our recent 4-day private safari to Mikumi and Ruaha National Parks was a memorable adventure. The journey through Mikumi was enjoyable, especially during the game drives when we could spend time observing the landscape and wildlife. We had enough time to enjoy both Mikumi and Ruaha and still have moments to relax between the activities. For us, the best part was combining adventure with quality time together. Kitonga Tours gave us our best experience in Ruaha National Park.

We have previously stayed in luxury safari camps in Ruaha but chose this time a local company and simpler accommodation. In the rainy season it is not expected to reveal as much wildlife as in the dry season. We were completely surprised and delighted that we saw equally as much in this rainy season. The lush vegetation and flowers added to the experience. Freddy, our guide, and Habakkuki, our driver-guide, were the best we have ever had. They could not have done more. We had so many close encounters with elephants, giraffes and lions and an especial treat was our first sighting of a cheetah. We chose the simple government bandas which are clean and with a comfortable bed. The en-suite bathroom has cold water and a Western toilet. The food was Swahili, simple and perfectly adequate. Our guides did over and above - we were collected in our accommodation in Neema Crafts in Iringa and driven down the “Neverending road” to the entrance. We had lunch in our Banda camp then an evening game drive followed by dinner. Nest morning we had a dawn game drive and returned for a good breakfast. Then an all day game drive with a bush lunch. They would have given us a further evening drive but we were tired and had a nap before dinner bedside the Great Ruaha River. Next morning we had another Dawn game drive before breakfast and the drive out of the park and back to Iringa. I highly recommend Kitonga Tours and another time would request our guides and driver. Having now seen the government cottages and new restaurant, I would upgrade to those next visit. The cottages are simple with a sitting room, bedroom and en-suite with solar hot water. They have a balcony with seats looking over the Great Ruaha River.
