Getting there

Car

From the main road within Mahale Mountains, head towards the trail that leads to Mhande. Ensure you have a reliable vehicle as the roads can be rugged. Drive approximately 30 kilometers towards the southeast, following the signs for hiking trails. You will reach a small parking area near the trailhead. Park your vehicle here.

Hiking

After parking, begin your hike from the trailhead. The trail to Mhande is well-marked but can be steep and challenging. It is approximately a 5-kilometer hike and should take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your fitness level. Be sure to carry enough water and snacks. Keep an eye out for local wildlife along the way.

Public Transportation

If you do not have a car, you can take a local taxi or a shared minibus to the nearest village. From there, you can hire a local guide or arrange for a taxi to take you to the trailhead. Expect to pay around 20,000 TZS for the taxi ride. After reaching the trailhead, proceed to hike to Mhande as described earlier.
