Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Mbeya, which is about 284 kilometers away from Kalambo Falls. Head west on the A7 highway towards Sumbawanga. After approximately 200 kilometers, you will reach the town of Sumbawanga. From Sumbawanga, continue north on the C93 road for about 80 kilometers. Look for signs indicating Kalambo Falls; it is located near the border with Zambia. The falls are situated at coordinates -8.5973739 latitude and 31.2395865 longitude. Keep in mind that the roads can be rough, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. There may be a parking fee when you arrive at the site.
Public Transportation
To reach Kalambo Falls via public transport, take a bus from Mbeya to Sumbawanga. Buses leave regularly from the Mbeya bus station and the journey takes about 4-5 hours. Once you arrive in Sumbawanga, you can hire a taxi or take a local minibus to Kalambo Falls. The taxi ride will take around 1-1.5 hours and should cost between 30,000 to 50,000 TZS. Ensure you negotiate the fare beforehand. If you choose to take a minibus, be aware that it may drop you off at a distance from the falls, requiring additional transport or a hike.
Hiking
For the adventurous, if you are already near the vicinity of Kalambo Falls, you can hike to the falls from surrounding areas. From Sumbawanga, you may find local guides offering hiking tours, which can range from 2 to 4 hours depending on your starting point.
