Getting There

Car

If you are traveling by car from the nearest major town, Kigoma, head south on the A1 highway towards Mwamgongo. After approximately 45 km, follow signs directing you to Gombe National Park. The last stretch is a dirt road that leads directly to the park entrance. Be aware of the road conditions as they can be bumpy, especially during the rainy season. Make sure to refuel in Kigoma, as there are no gas stations near the park.
Public Transportation

From Kigoma, you can take a shared taxi or 'dala dala' (local minibus) to Mwamgongo. The fare is usually around 3,000 TZS (Tanzanian Shillings). The ride takes about 1-1.5 hours. Upon arriving in Mwamgongo, you will likely need to hire a local boat to take you to the park entrance, which is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. The boat ride typically costs around 15,000 TZS per person and takes about 30 minutes.
