Car
If you're driving from Highland Rim, start by heading southeast on Highland Rim Road. Continue straight for about 5 miles until you reach the junction with TN-156. Turn right onto TN-156 South and follow it for approximately 7 miles. You'll then merge onto US-41A South. After about 4 miles, take a left onto Tennessee Avenue. The Cross will be located on your right at Tennessee Ave, Sewanee, TN 37375. There is no entry fee for visiting The Cross.
Public Transportation
To reach The Cross using public transportation, you will first need to take a local bus or shuttle service from Highland Rim to the nearest transit hub. Depending on the schedule, this may involve transferring to a bus heading towards Sewanee. Make sure to check the local bus schedules in advance, as they can vary. Once in Sewanee, you can either walk or take a short taxi ride to Tennessee Avenue. The Cross is a short distance away from the bus stop in Sewanee. It's advisable to have some cash for the bus fare, which typically ranges around $1.50 to $3.00 depending on the distance.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, biking from Highland Rim to The Cross is an option. Start on Highland Rim Road heading southeast for about 5 miles. You will then merge onto TN-156 South and continue for another 7 miles. Once you reach US-41A, it's about a 4-mile ride to Tennessee Avenue. Ensure you wear a helmet and have reflective gear, as some roads may not have bike lanes. There are no additional costs aside from potential bike rental fees if you do not have your own.
Walking
If you are feeling particularly energetic and are located close to The Cross, you can walk there. Starting from the center of Highland Rim, follow Highland Rim Road until you connect with TN-156 South. This will be a lengthy walk, approximately 12 miles, so ensure you have plenty of water and wear comfortable shoes. This option is completely free, aside from any personal supplies you may need for the journey.
