Bangkok: Ayutthaya UNESCO Temples & Chao Phraya River Cruise

Fabulous tour, no one trying to sell you trinkets

This tour, and our funny and knowledgeable guide Kiwi, made this possibly our favorite day of sightseeing in Bangkok. Well, an hour outside of Bangkok. We started at Wat Chai, before going to two additional temples, including the Buddha head in the tree. On our way to each stop, Kiwi shared lots of history and info about the royal family and local geopolitical events. It was interesting, she was funny, and I felt like we learned a lot. After visiting the 3 temples, we went on a river cruise to see Wat Chai from the river. It was lovely, but my partner and I would have given up the boat ride in exchange for more time at the temples, but that’s just us. Lunch was at a local Michelin-recommended spot, food was fantastic and incredibly inexpensive. Just a heads up, portions are not at all American sized, perfect for those of us liking smaller portions, but something to keep in mind if you have big eaters in your group. My son likely would have had 3 meals at a certain point in his teenage years. Thank you Kiwi! This tour was amazing!

Ayutthaya & Ang Thong Private Tour: Thailand's Largest Buddha

A Nice Day Outside Bangkok

We really enjoyed this tour. Ayutthaya was interesting with all the old ruins, but the giant Buddha in Ang Thong was the part that caught my attention most. Standing beside it really gives you a sense of the scale. The drive was comfortable, the guide explained things in a simple way, and we had plenty of time for photos. A good day trip and something a little different from the usual Bangkok tours.
