Car
If you're driving from the center of the Golden Triangle, head towards Chiang Saen District. Take Route 1 (Asia Highway) towards Chiang Saen. After approximately 10 km, look for signs for Doi Pu Khao, which will direct you towards a smaller road leading up the mountain. Follow this road for about 5 km until you reach the parking area for Phra That Doi Pu Khao. Parking is typically free, but ensure you park in designated areas.
Public Transportation
To reach Phra That Doi Pu Khao via public transport, start at the Golden Triangle bus station and take a local songthaew (shared taxi) heading to Chiang Saen. The fare is usually around 30-50 THB per person. Once you arrive in Chiang Saen, you may need to hire a motorbike taxi or arrange a local songthaew to take you up to the temple. This additional ride may cost approximately 100-200 THB depending on negotiation.
Motorbike
For the more adventurous, renting a motorbike in the Golden Triangle is a great option. You can rent a bike for around 200-500 THB per day. Head towards Chiang Saen on Route 1, then follow the signs for Doi Pu Khao. The ride offers scenic views, and you'll enjoy the flexibility of stopping along the way. Ensure you have a valid driver’s license and wear a helmet.
