Car
If you are driving from Vientiane, Laos, take Route 13 south towards Paksé. Continue on Route 13 for approximately 180 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Route 23. Take a left onto Route 23 and follow it for about 60 kilometers until you reach Khong. The drive should take around 3-4 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Make sure to have your passport and any necessary documents for crossing the border if coming from Laos.
Public Transportation - Bus
From Paksé, you can take a bus to Khong. Head to the Southern Bus Station in Paksé and look for buses heading to Khong. The journey takes approximately 1.5 hours and costs around 30,000 LAK (approximately $3 USD). Buses depart throughout the day, so check the schedule upon arrival. Ensure you have cash in local currency for the fare.
Public Transportation - Boat
Once in Khong, you can explore the area by boat. Local boat services operate on the Mekong River, offering scenic views and access to nearby islands. Prices vary depending on the distance and duration of the trip, so inquire locally. Boats typically depart from the riverbank close to the town center.
