Baucau Beach: A Hidden Gem of Timor-Leste

Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Ermera, walk towards the main road leading to Baucau. Head east on the main road (also known as the Ainaro-Baucau road). After about 15 minutes, you will reach a junction. Take the left fork towards Baucau. Continue walking for about 45 minutes until you start to see signs for Baucau. The road will lead you downhill into the coastal area. As you approach Baucau, you’ll notice the landscape changing from hilly terrain to flatter areas closer to the beach. Once you reach the town of Baucau, follow the signs to Baucau beach, which is a short walk from the town center.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  From the central bus station in Ermera, take a local bus heading towards Baucau. The bus ride should take about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on road conditions. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Baucau. Once you arrive in Baucau, exit the bus and walk towards the beach, which is approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Follow the road signs directing you towards the beach area. You will pass through the town and can ask locals for directions if needed.

• Bicycle

  If you have access to a bicycle, start from the center of Ermera and head east on the Ainaro-Baucau road. This route is quite scenic and will take about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your cycling speed. Be cautious of the traffic and be sure to stay on the road. After reaching the junction, take the left fork and continue cycling downhill towards Baucau. Once you arrive in the town, follow the signs to Baucau beach, which is easily accessible from the town center.
