Experience the Majestic Mapu'a Vaea Blowholes

Getting There

• Car

  If you have access to a car while on Eua Island, the journey to Mapu'a Vaea Blowholes is relatively straightforward. Start from the main town of Neiafu and head south on the main road (Ala Tahi). Continue driving for approximately 30 minutes. You will pass through the village of Houma, where you should keep an eye out for the turn-off to the blowholes. Shortly after Houma, look for signs directing you to Mapu'a Vaea. The blowholes are located near RMGR+8M4, which you should enter into your GPS. The parking area is just a short walk from the blowholes themselves.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, you can take a local bus or taxi from Neiafu to Houma. Buses typically run every hour, and the fare is around 10 TOP (Tongan Paʻanga). Ask the driver to drop you off near the turn-off to Mapu'a Vaea Blowholes. From there, you will likely need to walk about 15-20 minutes to reach the blowholes. It's advisable to ask for directions from locals if needed, as the path can be a bit winding.

• Walking

  Once you arrive at the designated drop-off point near the turn-off for Mapu'a Vaea, you will need to walk approximately 1 km to reach the blowholes. Follow the path that leads towards the coastline. It can get a bit steep and rocky, so wear sturdy shoes. The blowholes are located directly by the ocean, and you will hear them before you see them, especially on windy days.
