Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Tunis. Take the A1 highway south towards Béja. After approximately 60 km, take the exit toward Teboursouk (N5). Continue on N5 for about 18 km until you reach the town of Teboursouk. From Teboursouk, follow the signs to Dougga, which is about 8 km away. The ruins will be located on your right. Make sure to have a GPS device or a mobile map application handy, as the signs may not always be clear. Parking is typically available at the site, but it may incur a small fee (around 2 TND).

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Dougga using public transportation, first take a train from Tunis to Béja. The train station is located in the center of Tunis, and tickets can be purchased at the station or online. The train ride will take about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Béja, head to the bus station located near the train station. Look for a bus heading to Teboursouk; the bus journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. After arriving in Teboursouk, you will need to take a taxi or a shared taxi (known locally as a 'louage') to Dougga, which is about 8 km away. Expect to pay around 10-15 TND for the taxi ride. Ensure to confirm the fare before starting the journey.

    If you prefer a direct route and are already in a nearby town or city, you can hire a taxi to Dougga. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand. The cost will vary depending on your starting point but generally ranges from 30 to 50 TND for a one-way trip from nearby towns. The journey will take around 30 minutes depending on traffic.
