The drive should take approximately 30 minutes from the nearest town, and parking is usually available nearby.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from the nearest city (e.g., Gabès) towards Matmata. The buses run regularly throughout the day, and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Upon arriving at Matmata, you can either hire a taxi or walk to Old Matmata, which is approximately 3 km away from the bus station. Expect to pay around 5-10 TND for the taxi ride.
Walking
If you prefer to walk from Matmata to Old Matmata, take the scenic route through the hills. The walk is approximately 3 km and should take about 40 minutes.
