Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Sultanahmet Square, head southeast towards the Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque). From the mosque, walk down the hill towards the Hippodrome of Constantinople. Continue straight ahead until you reach Yerebatan Caddesi (the street where the Basilica Cistern is located). Turn left onto Yerebatan Caddesi and walk for about 200 meters. The entrance to the Basilica Cistern will be on your right, next to the famous 'Basilica Cistern' sign.

  • Public Transport (Tram)

    If you're near the Taksim area, take the Taksim Metro to Kabataş station. From Kabataş, transfer to the tram (T1 line) heading towards Bağcılar. Get off at the Sultanahmet stop. Once you exit the tram, walk towards the Sultanahmet Mosque. From there, follow the walking directions as mentioned above, heading to Yerebatan Caddesi and locating the entrance on your right.

  • Walking from Hagia Sophia

    If you're coming from the Hagia Sophia, exit the main entrance and walk straight towards the Sultanahmet Square. Upon reaching the square, turn left and walk down towards Yerebatan Caddesi. Continue down Yerebatan Caddesi for about 200 meters, and you will find the entrance to the Basilica Cistern on your right.
