Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest city, Trabzon. From Trabzon, take the D-885 highway heading towards Maçka. Follow the signs for Sümela Monastery as you approach Maçka. You will need to turn onto the Altındere Valley National Park road. Keep driving for about 10 km until you reach the entrance of the national park. There is a parking area available near the monastery, and the entrance fee to the park is approximately 20 TL. Note that the road can be narrow and winding, so drive carefully.
Public Transportation
To reach Sümela Monastery using public transportation, take a dolmuş (shared minibus) from Trabzon to Maçka. The dolmuşes leave from the Trabzon bus station or along the main roads in the city. The fare is around 20 TL. After reaching Maçka, you can take a taxi or another dolmuş that specifically heads towards Sümela Monastery. The taxi ride from Maçka to the monastery will take about 15 minutes and cost approximately 100 TL. Be sure to check the return schedule for dolmuşes back to Trabzon.
