Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan. Drive to the Köpetdag Mountains via the M37 highway. After about 40 km, take the exit towards the mountain region. Follow the scenic route through the mountains. The road is generally well-maintained, but be cautious of any wildlife or road constructions. Continue driving until you reach the village of Gokdepe. From Gokdepe, take a smaller road that leads deeper into the mountains. Keep your GPS handy to navigate through the winding roads. Bugor Dash-Tyumek is located approximately 20 km from Gokdepe, and you may need to park your car and hike the last few kilometers to reach the peak.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, start your journey from Ashgabat by taking a bus or shared taxi to Gokdepe. The bus terminal in Ashgabat has several departures throughout the day. The fare is typically around 5-10 TMT (Turkmen Manat). Once you arrive in Gokdepe, you will need to hire a local taxi to take you to the base of Bugor Dash-Tyumek. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it should be around 15-20 TMT for the ride. From the drop-off point, prepare for a short hike to reach the peak. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes, as the terrain can be challenging.
Hiking
Regardless of your transportation choice, expect to hike a portion of the journey to Bugor Dash-Tyumek. If you drove, park your car at the nearest accessible point. The hike to the peak is moderate, taking about 1 to 2 hours depending on your fitness level. Follow the well-trodden path, but keep an eye on local maps and signs to stay on track. Bring sufficient water and snacks to stay energized during your hike.
