From Ashgabat, take the A-1 highway heading south towards the Köpetdag Mountains. Drive approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for the mountains. Continue on the B-8 road, which leads into the mountainous area. After about 15 kilometers, you will come to a fork; take the left road towards the Sha-Kadam peak area. The final stretch is a dirt road, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Follow the signs towards Sha-Kadam, which will take you to the designated parking area near the base of the mountain. Parking fees may apply, around 10-15 TMT.

Public Transportation

Start your journey from Ashgabat by finding a shared taxi or a bus heading towards the Köpetdag Mountains. The fare is typically around 5-10 TMT. Once you reach the nearest village or town at the base of the mountains, you may need to hire a local taxi to take you closer to Sha-Kadam. Expect to pay approximately 30-50 TMT for this taxi service, depending on the distance. It's advisable to negotiate the fare before starting your ride. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at the trailhead for Sha-Kadam.

Hiking

Once at the trailhead, you will need to hike approximately 3-5 kilometers to reach the summit of Sha-Kadam. The trail can be steep and rocky, so ensure you wear appropriate footwear and carry enough water. There are no entrance fees for the hiking trail, but it is recommended to start early in the morning to avoid the midday heat. The hike can take anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on your fitness level.
