Walking
From the center of Mary, head north on Atamurat Niyazov Avenue. Continue walking for about 1 kilometer until you reach the intersection with Gorky Street. Here, turn left onto Gorky Street and walk another 1.5 kilometers until you reach the bus station (Avtovokzal Mary). This is a good place to ask locals for directions, as they are often friendly and willing to help.
Public Transport
At the Mary bus station, look for minibuses (marshrutkas) heading towards Merv. These minibuses frequently depart and the fare is usually inexpensive (check for the latest prices). Inform the driver that you want to go to Sultan Kala, which is near Merv. The journey should take around 30 minutes. The driver will drop you off near the entrance of the archaeological site.
Walking
Once you arrive in Merv, follow the signs or ask for directions to Sultan Kala, which is a short 15-minute walk from where the bus drops you off. Head east on the main road and keep walking straight until you see the entrance to the archaeological site on your left. Make sure to take your time to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
