Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Mbale, head north on the Mbale–Soroti Road. After approximately 50 kilometers, turn right onto the road leading to Pian Upe Game Reserve. Continue for about 30 kilometers. Follow the signs to the reserve entrance. Ensure you have a valid map or GPS, as some sections may be unpaved.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Pian Upe Game Reserve via public transport, start at the Mbale bus station. Take a bus heading towards Soroti. Inform the driver or conductor that you want to get off at the turn-off for Pian Upe, which is about 50 kilometers from Mbale. Once you arrive at the turn-off, you may need to hire a motorcycle taxi (boda boda) to cover the remaining 30 kilometers to the reserve entrance. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand, which is usually around 10,000-20,000 UGX.

  • Boda Boda (Motorcycle Taxi)

    If you reach the turn-off from the Mbale–Soroti Road, you will need to hire a boda boda to take you to Pian Upe Game Reserve. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Always agree on the fare before starting your journey to avoid misunderstandings. A typical fare for this distance ranges from 10,000 to 20,000 UGX.
