If you are driving from Mbale, head north on the Mbale–Soroti Road. After approximately 50 kilometers, turn right onto the road leading to Pian Upe Game Reserve. Continue for about 30 kilometers. Follow the signs to the reserve entrance. Ensure you have a valid map or GPS, as some sections may be unpaved.

To reach Pian Upe Game Reserve via public transport, start at the Mbale bus station. Take a bus heading towards Soroti. Inform the driver or conductor that you want to get off at the turn-off for Pian Upe, which is about 50 kilometers from Mbale. Once you arrive at the turn-off, you may need to hire a motorcycle taxi (boda boda) to cover the remaining 30 kilometers to the reserve entrance. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand, which is usually around 10,000-20,000 UGX.
