Car
From the center of Elgon town, head north on the Budadiri Road. Drive for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the entrance to Mount Elgon Forest Reserve, which will be marked with signs. There are parking facilities available at the entrance. Ensure to have some cash on hand for the entrance fee, which is typically around 20,000 UGX per person.
Public Transportation
Begin your journey by taking a taxi or a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) from Elgon town to the nearest taxi stage. Look for a taxi heading towards Budadiri. Once you arrive at Budadiri, you can either walk the remaining 15 kilometers to the Mount Elgon Forest Reserve entrance or hire a local boda-boda for about 5,000 UGX to take you directly to the entrance. Remember to confirm the fare before starting the ride.
Walking
If you prefer a more adventurous route and are already near Budadiri, you can walk to the Mount Elgon Forest Reserve. From Budadiri, head north along the main road. The walk is about 15 kilometers and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry enough water, as the trek can take about 3-4 hours depending on your pace.
