Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, ensure your GPS is set to Mount Elgon Hot Spring's coordinates: Latitude 1.1469164, Longitude 34.5794936. From the town of Mbale, head northeast on the Mbale–Budadiri Road (A109). After approximately 25 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to Mount Elgon National Park. Follow the signs for the hot spring. The road may become rugged, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Be prepared for possible entrance fees to the park, which typically range between UGX 20,000 to UGX 50,000 per person, depending on whether you are a resident or a foreign tourist.

• Public Transportation

  To reach the Mount Elgon Hot Spring via public transportation, take a taxi or a 'matatu' (shared minibus) from Mbale to Budadiri. The fare is usually around UGX 3,000 to UGX 5,000. Once you arrive in Budadiri, you will need to hire a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to take you to the hot spring. The boda-boda ride will cost around UGX 10,000 to UGX 15,000 depending on your negotiation skills. Make sure to confirm that the boda-boda driver knows the way to the hot spring. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes, and the road can be bumpy, so hold on tight!

• Walking/Hiking

  If you are feeling adventurous and are already at Budadiri, you can hike to the Mount Elgon Hot Spring. From Budadiri, take the trail leading to the hot spring. This hike is about 10 kilometers and can take around 3 to 4 hours depending on your fitness level. Ensure you carry sufficient water and snacks, and wear appropriate hiking gear. Remember to inform someone of your hiking plan for safety.
