Bicycle
If you are in Entebbe and have rented a bicycle, start by heading towards the main road leading to Kampala. Follow the signs for Kampala, cycling along the Entebbe Road. After approximately 40-50 minutes, you will reach a junction where the road splits. Take the left fork towards Kampala City Centre. Continue straight until you reach Speke Road. The Independence Monument will be on your right, easily identifiable by its tall structure.
Walking
If you prefer to walk, start from the Entebbe Botanical Gardens and head towards the main road. Walk along the Entebbe Road towards Kampala. It is a long walk (approximately 1.5 hours), so be prepared for the distance. As you approach the city, stay on the main road until you reach the junction where you can turn left toward Kampala City Centre. Walk straight until you reach Speke Road. The Independence Monument will be on your right side.
Public Transport (Matatu)
To get to the Independence Monument using public transport, make your way to the nearest matatu stage in Entebbe, such as the one near the Entebbe Taxi Park. Board a matatu heading to Kampala, which should be clearly marked. The fare is usually quite affordable. The journey to Kampala will take around 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the Kampala Taxi Park, exit the matatu and head towards Speke Road. Walk straight until you spot the Independence Monument on your left.
