Getting There

  • Bicycle

    From the city center of Kampala, rent a bicycle at one of the local shops. Start your journey by heading east on Jinja Road. Continue on Jinja Road until you reach the junction with the Kampala-Jinja Highway. Turn right and follow the highway for about 10 kilometers. Look for signs directing you to the ferry terminal at Jinja, which is located near the shores of Lake Victoria. Once you reach the terminal, park your bicycle and purchase a ticket for the ferry to Chimpanzee Island.

  • Boda Boda (Motorcycle Taxi)

    From your location in Kampala, find a nearby boda boda station. Inform the rider that you want to go to Jinja and specifically request to be dropped off at the ferry terminal. The ride will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Upon arrival at the ferry terminal, purchase a ticket for the ferry that takes you directly to Chimpanzee Island.

    Head to the nearest bus park in Kampala, such as the Namayiba Bus Terminal. Board a bus heading to Jinja. The bus ride will take about an hour.
