Walking
If you are in Nakasero, start by heading towards the main road, Kintu Road. Walk down Kintu Road until you reach the junction with Speke Road. This should take about 10-15 minutes on foot, depending on your starting point in Nakasero. Once at the junction, turn left onto Speke Road. Continue walking straight for about 500 meters. You will see the Independence Monument on your right, near the roundabout. It's a large, impressive structure and hard to miss.
Boda Boda (Motorcycle Taxi)
Find a nearby boda boda stage in Nakasero. You can ask locals for directions to the nearest stage if unsure. Once you are at the boda boda stage, tell the driver you want to go to Independence Monument. The ride should take about 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. The fare typically ranges from 1,000 to 3,000 UGX (Ugandan Shillings), so be sure to have cash on hand.
Public Taxi (Matatu)
If you prefer taking public transportation, locate a matatu (shared taxi) stage in Nakasero. You can inquire with locals for the nearest matatu stop. Board a matatu heading towards Kampala Central. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at Speke Road or near the Independence Monument. The journey should take about 15-20 minutes. The fare is usually around 1,000 UGX. Once you get off, walk a short distance towards the roundabout, and you will see the monument.
