Walking
From the central area of Lira, head towards the main road, A-1. Walk north along A-1 towards Gulu. This route will take you through the bustling local market areas, offering a glimpse of everyday life in Lira. Continue walking for approximately 8 kilometers (about 2 hours on foot) until you reach the junction for Gulu - Patiko Rd. Look for signs indicating Patiko. At this junction, take a left onto Gulu - Patiko Rd.
Boda Boda (Motorcycle Taxi)
If you prefer a faster option, you can hire a boda boda from any point in Lira. Simply tell the rider you want to go to Fort Patiko. They will take you directly to Gulu - Patiko Rd. The journey should take around 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your ride.
Local Transport (Matatu/Taxi)
For a more budget-friendly option, look for a matatu (shared taxi) heading towards Gulu. Board the matatu at the designated pick-up points in Lira. After about 15-20 minutes, inform the driver that you want to get off at the junction for Gulu - Patiko Rd. Once you get off, follow the signage to Fort Patiko, which is about 5 kilometers down Gulu - Patiko Rd. You can choose to walk or catch another boda boda from the junction to cover this distance.
