Private Car
If you are traveling by private car, start from your accommodation in the Ssese Islands (e.g., Kalangala). Head towards the main road leading to the ferry terminal. Take the ferry from Kalangala to the mainland, which typically costs around 10,000 UGX per person. Once you reach the mainland, follow signs to Masaka on the Kampala-Masaka highway. After approximately 30 km, you will see signs for Lake Nabugabo. Turn off the main road and follow the signs that lead to JWR7+P7M Lake Nabugabo in Bale. The drive from the ferry terminal to Danau Nabugabo will take about 1-1.5 hours.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, begin your journey in Kalangala. Take a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) or a local taxi to the ferry terminal. The ferry ride from Kalangala to the mainland costs around 10,000 UGX per person. Upon reaching the mainland, you can board a matatu (shared taxi) heading towards Masaka. Inform the driver that you wish to get off at the turn-off for Lake Nabugabo. The matatu ride will take about an hour. After disembarking, you can hire a boda-boda to take you directly to Danau Nabugabo, which is about 5 km away. Expect to pay around 5,000-10,000 UGX for the boda-boda ride.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous traveler, consider renting a bicycle in Kalangala. Start by cycling to the ferry terminal and take the ferry to the mainland. The ferry fee remains the same at around 10,000 UGX per person. Once you reach the mainland, bike along the road towards Masaka. Look for signs to Lake Nabugabo. The cycling distance from the ferry terminal to Lake Nabugabo is approximately 25 km, and it should take about 1.5-2 hours depending on your cycling speed. Ensure you have water and snacks, as amenities may be limited along the way.
