Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Arua, head southeast on the A1 highway. Continue on the A1 for approximately 70 km, passing through the towns of Pakwach and Kiryandongo. Once you reach Kiryandongo, look for signs directing you to Budongo Central Forest Reserve. The reserve is located about 15 km off the A1 highway on a well-maintained dirt road. Follow the signs to reach the entrance of the forest reserve.

  • Public Transportation (Matatu)

    From Arua, take a matatu (shared taxi) heading to Kampala or Masindi. Ask the driver to drop you off at Kiryandongo. The fare is approximately 20,000 UGX. Once in Kiryandongo, you can hire a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to take you the remaining 15 km to Budongo Central Forest Reserve. The boda-boda fare should be around 10,000-15,000 UGX.

  • Public Transportation (Bus)

    Alternatively, you can take a bus from Arua to Masindi. Upon reaching Masindi, you will need to find a matatu or a taxi that goes to Kiryandongo. Once there, follow the same process as above by hiring a boda-boda to Budongo Central Forest Reserve. The bus fare to Masindi is approximately 30,000 UGX.
