Independence Square: The Heart of Kyiv

Getting There

• Metro

  If you are near a metro station, take the Metro Line 2 (the red line) towards 'Krasnoarmijska' or 'Druzhby Narodiv'. Get off at 'Maidan Nezalezhnosti' station. Once you exit the metro, you will find yourself directly at Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti). The square is a short walk away, and you will immediately see the large central square with the Independence Monument.

• Walking

  If you are in the vicinity of Khreshchatyk Street, simply walk towards Maidan Nezalezhnosti. As you walk down Khreshchatyk, you will notice various shops and cafes. Continue straight until you reach the square, which will be on your left. Look out for the tall column topped with a statue of a woman holding a wreath, known as the Independence Monument.

• Bus

  Catch any bus that travels towards 'Maidan Nezalezhnosti'. The bus stops are clearly marked. Once you board, you can ask the driver to let you know when you reach the square. Most buses will take you directly to the main square. Once you get off, follow the crowd or look for the prominent landmarks in the area.

• Tram

  Take a tram that goes towards 'Maidan Nezalezhnosti'. Check the tram line numbers that service the area, such as Tram 1 or Tram 3. Get off at the stop closest to the square. After disembarking, it is just a short walk to the square. Look for signs directing you towards Maidan Nezalezhnosti.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more private option, you can use a taxi or rideshare app like Bolt or Uber. Just enter 'Maidan Nezalezhnosti' as your destination, and the driver will take you directly there. Ensure to confirm the location with the driver before starting your journey.
