Opened on 25 September 1925 by King George V and Queen Mary, the hall was designed to cultivate a taste for art and music in Aberdeen. The architect Alexander Marshall Mackenzie, known for notable works such as Australia House and the Waldorf Hotel in London, designed the hall as part of the expansion of the Aberdeen Art Gallery site.
