Parc Cefn Onn is a Grade 2 listed historic park situated approximately four miles north of Cardiff city centre, nestled on the northern fringes of the city near Lisvane. The park’s origins date back around 100 years when Ernest Prosser, a railway director, designed the upper park area to take advantage of the gentle valley carved by the Nant Fawr stream. Its historic layout features tumbling streams, winding paths, and a diverse collection of native and exotic trees, creating an intimate and picturesque woodland setting.

Visitors to Parc Cefn Onn can enjoy spectacular seasonal displays, from carpets of spring bulbs and exotic camellias to vibrant rhododendrons and azaleas in late spring and early summer. The park also contains ornamental gardens and a peaceful pond with a summerhouse, originally built to help alleviate tuberculosis symptoms of Prosser’s son.

It is wheelchair accessible and provides two Trampers for hire to assist visitors with mobility challenges. The park’s free car park and open access from dawn until dusk make it an inviting destination for all.

The Dingle, the historic northern garden, showcases rare and exotic plants and includes early features such as the summerhouse and former swimming pool. At the park’s entrance, a mural artwork in the subway narrates the park’s story, adding a cultural dimension to the natural setting.
