Cambridge Distillery occupies a small building on Grantchester High Street and operates as both a working production site and retail outlet. The core process uses vacuum distillation to treat each botanical individually under nine controlled variables, preserving delicate flavours from fresh ingredients foraged in nearby Grantchester Meadows. Indoor spaces resemble a laboratory with scientific glassware and compact equipment rather than traditional still rooms.

Visitor Activities

Shop visits allow browsing and purchasing bottled gins and vodkas with product sampling available for adults. Booked experiences centre on the weekly Make-It Class where participants select botanicals to create a personal gin recipe. From June 2026 the Distillery Tasting Tour adds a two-hour sequence that includes a welcome G&T, optional meadow walk when weather permits, botanical tasting, distillation explanation, and a final G&T made from the participant's own blend. Private groups of up to twenty can arrange dedicated sessions.

Grantchester provides a quiet Cambridgeshire village backdrop with the River Cam and meadows immediately adjacent. The distillery's location on the High Street places it within a compact historic settlement that draws literary associations and weekend visitors. The surrounding countryside supplies the scenic element; the building itself remains modest and functional.

From Cambridge city centre the Grantchester Meadows riverside path offers a flat 45- to 60-minute walk. Cycling takes 10 to 15 minutes. Bus services including the Whippet 18 reach the village in 12 to 15 minutes. Driving requires only 10 minutes yet village parking is limited and becomes congested at weekends. The Trumpington Park & Ride combined with a short bus ride avoids parking pressure.

Practical Details

Shop visits last 20 to 30 minutes while structured classes occupy about two hours. The operation runs at a premium price level with bottles starting around £30 and experiences between £35 and £60. Indoor areas function year-round; meadow walks remain weather-dependent. The site maintains a small scale that keeps visitor numbers low on weekdays.
