Getting There

  • Walking

    From the city center, start at the Inverness Cathedral. Head north on the River Ness path. Continue along the path until you reach the northern end of the river, where you will see a bridge. Cross the bridge and continue straight. Follow the road as it curves onto Kessock Road. After a 15-20 minute walk, you will arrive at the Merkinch Local Nature Reserve, located on the left side, just past the Kessock Bridge.

  • Public Bus

    From the city center, go to the bus stop at the Eastgate Shopping Centre. Catch the bus number 1 or 2 heading towards Kessock. The journey takes around 10-15 minutes. Get off at the stop near Kessock Road. From the bus stop, walk a few minutes down Kessock Road, and you will find the entrance to the Merkinch Local Nature Reserve on your left.

  • Bicycle

    If you have rented a bicycle, start at the Inverness Castle. Ride north towards the River Ness path. Cycle along the scenic route beside the river. After about 15 minutes, you will reach the Kessock Bridge. Cross the bridge, and as you descend, follow Kessock Road. The Merkinch Local Nature Reserve will be on your left after a short ride.
