Car
From any location in Kincardineshire, head towards the A90. If you're in Stonehaven, take the A92 towards Laurencekirk. Once on the A90, take the exit toward A937 for Laurencekirk. Follow the A937 into the village of Laurencekirk. Once you reach the village, turn onto the B966 towards the direction of the castle. Follow the B966, and you will see signs for Thornton Castle. It is located at Laurencekirk AB30 1EB. Ensure to check for parking availability near the site.

If traveling by bus, you can take the Stagecoach bus service that operates between Aberdeen and Laurencekirk. Look for buses labeled as 'X27' or similar services. Get off at the Laurencekirk bus stop. From there, you can either walk or take a local taxi to Thornton Castle. The castle is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs towards Thornton Castle, and you will reach your destination.

If you are already in Laurencekirk, start at the Laurencekirk town center. Head southwest on the A937 for a short distance until you reach the junction with the B966. Turn left onto B966, and follow the road as it curves. The castle will be on your left-hand side. It is approximately a 1-mile walk from the town center, so wear comfortable shoes.
