Rowntree Park was gifted to the city of York in 1921 by the Rowntree family, renowned for their confectionery business, as a memorial to the 200 employees of the Cocoa Works who suffered or died during World War I. Open daily from 8:00 am until dusk, with longer summer hours, Rowntree Park welcomes visitors year-round except Christmas Day.
