Beckett Park's land once belonged to Kirkstall Abbey before passing through various private hands following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. In 1832, William Beckett acquired the estate, transforming the property and renaming it Kirkstall Grange. The park's name honors Ernest Beckett, who sold the estate to Leeds Corporation in 1908.
