Discover more about Sportspark

Overview

Sportspark, located on the University of East Anglia campus in Norwich, stands as one of the UK's most successful community sport facilities. Opened in 2000 and funded primarily by the Lottery and Sport England, Sportspark has established itself as a cornerstone of accessible, affordable sports provision in the East Anglian region. The facility operates on a 'turn up and play' philosophy, welcoming both casual visitors and serious athletes without requiring membership, though membership options with additional benefits are available.

World-Class Facilities

The centrepiece of Sportspark is its Olympic-length 50-metre swimming pool, created by converting two 25-metre pools. This world-class facility hosts public swimming sessions, swimming lessons, Aquafit classes, family splash sessions, and Swimfit programmes suitable for all ages and abilities. The state-of-the-art Fitness Centre underwent a £1.3 million refurbishment in 2014, featuring over 130 stations of Life Fitness equipment with integrated entertainment systems, plus a timetable of over 60 weekly group exercise classes including Zumba, Pilates, Indoor Cycle, Circuits, Yoga, and Les Mills classes. The Spring Gymnastics Centre provides Olympic-standard facilities for recreational gymnastics and trampolining across all age groups, from preschoolers upwards.

Sports and Athletics

Athletes benefit from a 400-metre international standard, all-weather floodlit athletics track—the finest in Norfolk—complete with jumping and throwing facilities. Six floodlit outdoor tarmacadam tennis courts convert to four netball courts, with racquet hire and ball sales available. The climbing wall offers recreational climbing opportunities with regular open sessions, and a 'bring one guest, get one free' promotion encourages group participation.

Community Access and Programming

Sportspark's success rests on strong partnerships with Sport England, Active Norfolk, local councils, schools, and colleges, enabling diverse programming through National Governing Bodies. School holiday camps and activities tailored for all ages ensure year-round engagement. The facility maintains ample on-site parking and sits on a main bus route from Norwich Rail Station, enhancing accessibility for visitors across the region.

On-Site Amenities

An on-site café provides refreshments and light meals, allowing visitors to refuel after activities. The facility is designed to accommodate diverse user needs, with changing facilities, lockers, and information boards throughout.
