Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, head towards the village of Whetton. From Ashbourne, take the A515 northbound. Continue on the A515 for approximately 7 miles until you reach the B5054. Turn left onto B5054 and follow the road for about 1.5 miles. Just after passing the village of Whetton, look for a small car park on your left-hand side, which serves as the starting point for the walk to Thor's Cave. Parking may be limited, so arrive early if possible.

  • Public Transportation

    If you prefer to use public transport, take a bus from Ashbourne to the nearest bus stop, which is in the village of Hartington. Check local bus schedules as they may vary. Once you arrive in Hartington, you will need to walk to Thor's Cave, which is approximately 2 miles away. From Hartington, head south on the B5054 until you reach the junction with the A515. Turn left onto the A515 and then take the first right onto a footpath that leads you towards the Manifold Valley. Follow the signs for Thor's Cave, and after about 30-40 minutes of walking, you will arrive at the cave entrance.

    If you are already in the vicinity and prefer hiking, you can start from the Whetton village. From the village, take the footpath leading south towards the Manifold Valley.
